A former financial secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Alhaji Kayode Adanla has said he is sure that former governor Abiola Ajimobi will destroy all members of the party not on his side.
Adanla stated this while speaking with ThePUNCH on the root of the party’s crisis in the state and the recent appointment of the former governor as the deputy national chairman (South) of the party.
Adanla, who sounded confident in the interview, stated that the vindictive nature of the former governor would make it impossible for the APC in Oyo State to mend its fences before the general elections in 2023.
In his words, “Nothing is impossible, but I am a realist. With Ajimobi, there is no way we can make true reconciliation in Oyo APC. Ajimobi is so vindictive. So, he will use all it takes to destroy those of us who are not on his side.”
He stressed further that despite this he is confident the state chapter of the party would be ready for the 2023 elections because he expects Ajimobi to have left the party for them by then.
Adanla also stated that he and the real owners of the party would wait till Ajimobi leaves and there is nothing he can do. He added that by then the former governor would have exhausted all his cards and at the end of the day, he would be like Pharaoh.
He also noted that the reconcilation committee chaired by Chief Bisi Akande is a weak one that can do nothing because Akande is ‘Tinubu’s proxy‘.
When asked whether he will join hands with Ajimobi for a successful tenure now that his nomination as the deputy national chairman (South) of the party has been confirmed, he said, “Ajimobi has become a political liability in Oyo State and he cannot take the party back. As a sitting governor, he contested a seat in the Oyo south senatorial district but he lost. He could not win his ward not to talk of his local government. That is a big shame for any reasonable politician because it shows that the people have rejected him absolutely.”
