A non-partisan, grass-root awareness forum, Peoples’ Awareness Initiatives (PAI) has suspended its proposed ‘stay at home order’ notice to the public particularly the people of Akinyele Local Government Area over the purported escape of the suspected serial killer, Sunday Shodipe.

OYOINSIGHT recalls that PAI had last week issued an ultimatum to call the entire citizenry of Akinyele Local Government Area to stay at home in September 1st should the Police fail to re-arrest Shodipe who was said by the Police to have escaped from its lawful custody.

The Organization had declared that the ‘stay at home order’ would only be withdrawn on condition that the police was able to re-arrest the escaped assailant and parade him on or before 1st of September (Tuesday), 2020.

“We hereby use this medium to thank God Almighty, the Oyo State Government, the Inspector General of Police, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, the Nigerian Police Force in entirety, Akinyele LGA and LCDAs Chairmen, different security groups (vigilante, Soludero, local hunters, OPC and others) the media (both traditional and social), the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Oyo State Chapter, and the general public both home and abroad for your prodigious concern and utter support in re-arresting the absconded serial killer.

“The recapture has saved PAI a lot of energy, merceneries and costs that were earlier planned to deploy in actualizing maximum compliance with the order.

“Specifically, we extoled the unprecedented valor and irrepressible doggedness of the good people of Akinyele Local Government Area starting from traditional rulers, village leaders, religious groups particularly Akinyele Local Government Area Muslim Community, FOMWAN, NACOMYO and CAN (Akinyele Chapters), market women, artisans and different youth organizations for their cooperation, sincere support and willingness to adhere strictly to our declaration to stay at home as directed and as a civil way to condemn the leaky security in Akinyele and seeming conspiracy on the part of the security agency during the blistering period.

“However, it’s not over until it’s over. For crying out loud, now that the serial killer, Sunday Shodipe has been recaptured; should we trust Oyo State Government and the Nigerian Police Force that the security situation in Akinyele LGA in particular and the entire state in general will improve? What would the government and police do differently to preclude reoccurrence of the syndicate strike in the future? These cardinal questions are not only begging for5 affirmative answers but also charging the authorities concerned to rise up to their primary responsibilities of ensuring that their citizens live, transact business and interrelate under a safe, peaceable and harmonious atmosphere.

“Further and most importantly, the blood of the lost innocent souls is crying for justice. PAI, the people of Akinyele and the families of the victims are not only demanding for justice in the case of Sunday Shodipe and his cohorts but also craving for expeditious justice dispensation. There is a legal maxim that says: ‘justice delayed is justice denied’. PAI is hereby avidly appealing to the judiciary to kindly do the needful and as timely as possible.

“Moreso, there is no need to drag the judicial process over this case. After all, the serial killer, Sunday Shodipe himself, has confessed to the whole world that he killed six out of nine people.

“We wish to state further that PAI is keenly and astutely interested in pursuing the case as it unfolds with the aim of ensuring that all the perpetrators in the incessant gruesome murders including those that are not yet arrested are brought to justice in the end.

“Finally, it is our hope and belief that the helmsman of Oyo State Government, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, the IGP, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and the Judiciary will not allow this sensitive case to tarnish their image and reputations because good names are easier lost than built.”
