Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu has told his counterpart in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that he doesn’t flaunt his philanthropic gesture because Islam frowns at it.
Adelabu, who was reacting to a statement credited to Makinde that he has been beneficial to Islam than him, said he isn’t like the PDP candidate who is fond of advertising what should ordinarily be between the benefactor and the beneficiary.
Our response is drawn from the last part of the request by Engr. Seyi Makinde that he “stop mixing religion with politics.”
We have decided to maintain a dignified stance in this campaign. Our position is that you don’t wrestle with a pig, least you get soiled.
He last left real issues severally unattended to because he doesn’t have what it takes to understand the complex nature of governance. This is the reason he has been chasing shadows and spinning lies around.
However, when you begin to flaunt what is supposed to be between you, the beneficiary and the Almighty God, something else has crept in.
Chief Adebayo Adelabu is not a trader who will make what he has been doing in the realm of philanthropy over the years a public discourse, when all that he has been doing has been out of conviction and not for him to use it as a basis for asking the good people of Oyo State to entrust him with their collective will.
He understands the dictate of Islam and the admonition of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad that it is better for you to be discreet about your philanthropism.
If he’s going to make a disclosure, he’ll rather do so among his friends and contemporaries, as also recommended by the prophet of Islam, to encourage them to assist the needies.
If Engr. Makinde is desirous of knowing what Chief Adelabu has been doing in the area of philanthropy, he may have to wait till the day of judgement or he goes looking for the beneficiaries who have the right of disclosure, if they so desire.
