Popular Ibadan-born broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, will be back on radio from Wednesday 3rd April, 2019, OYO INSIGHT can authoritatively report.
His programmes, however, would now be aired on Thirty-two 94.9 FM, Ibadan. While Kokoro Alate will come up every Wednesdays and Fridays between 8 and 9 pm, Awa’rawa will be aired every Saturdays at 9 am.
His ‘freedom’ came two year after the National Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, purportedly suspended him. Oriyomi was suspended in February 2017.
He told OYO INSIGHT last night that the ban has been lifted. This was after the case was withdrawn, following a ‘peace move’ by ‘eminent personalities.
Only last year, OYO INSIGHT recalled how Oriyomi, through the law firm of Chief Lafeef Fagbemi, took the NBC to court over what he called an order for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.
Joined in the suit number FHC/IB/CS/45 with the NBC is an independent radio station, Petals FM located in Ibadan.
According to him, in February 2017, he had a discussion with Petals FM management where it was agreed on advise to hone his skills based on NBC’s submission.
He said he not only temporarily stopped his programmes but attended a refresher course at the National Broadcasting Academy which is a training arm of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, (FRCN) in Lagos, which he completed sometimes in December, 2017.
Oriyomi said he informed the 2nd Respondent (Petals) about the completion the course and for them to let the first Respondent know the current situation, but that despite this, he was not allowed back on air.
Oriyomi had told OYO INSIGHT that the purported suspension greatly affected him psychologically, professionally and economically.
