For the first time in years. Well at least from my own perspective.
Yesterday when the poor people’s champions, President Buhari and Prof Osinbajo came to town….for miles from Mapo to Agodi Gate Ibadan, the people kept following the campaign caravan.
This was for over 5 miles.
I’d give an example so you understand this distance… it’s like walking from Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi to University of Ibadan International Conference Centre. (I am not talking of UI, I am talking of a further distance).
And then everywhere people trooped out to cheer at every step of the way, meaning the President and the VP stood up in the open roof caravan from Mapo and when they got to Iwo Rd, they were still acknowledging cheering crowds.
From teens, to youths, middle age people, elderly people… they wouldn’t stop following and cheering us.
The closest to this in living memory is Awo in Ibadan 1979 and 83 maybe from what Dad told me.
The progressives are back in full strength. This is no gainsaying, the multitude of committed followers is a testament to that.
On and on, the caravan goes, trailed by multitudes of party faithful. Followed and hailed by men and women who believe that we deserve nothing but the best.
It was not until Mr. President & VP’s campaign caravan made the turn to the airport road, the final stretch in a journey that began at the Mapo hall that both of them could manage to take their seats on the caravan since it left Mapo Hall.
Despite that, a lot of people were still following the caravan while more were coming to join as we moved.
Yes I am astonished. The last time I saw something like this was when I was like 7 years old in 1993 during MKO Abiola’s campaign.
