BREAKING: Fire Razes Shops, Destroys Goods Worth Millions At Bodija Market
Goods and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed after a fire incident razed shops at Bodija Market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Monday.
The fire reportedly engulfed the shops while flames and thick smoke spread through the affected premises, destroying goods kept inside the shops.
The incident affected 15 shops out of a row of 44, according to the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, who confirmed the incident on Monday.
Akinwande said firefighters were immediately mobilised to the market after receiving information about the outbreak.
He explained that upon arriving at the scene, the fire service crew discovered that 15 shops in the row had been engulfed by flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected premises.
The fire service chairman attributed the incident to an electrical surge, although further details about how the surge occurred were not provided.
No casualty was recorded in the incident, Akinwande said.
The value of goods destroyed and the full extent of the damage to the affected shops have yet to be determined.
