LAUTECH ASUU Threatens Strike, Demands 2025 Agreement Implementation, Entitlements From Oyo Govt

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) branch, has threatened industrial action over the partial implementation of the December 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and unpaid staff entitlements.

The union, in a statement signed by its Chairperson, Prof Olujimi Dada, Secretary, Dr ‘Soji Arinola and made available to OYOINSIGHT.COM urged the Oyo State Government to urgently address the issues, warning that continued delays could disrupt academic activities at the university.

ASUU said the December 2025 agreement had been processed and approved by the university’s Governing Council, with the financial implications already submitted to the state government.

It said its demands include the full implementation of the December 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement, payment of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and settlement of promotion arrears, some of which it said had accumulated over several years.

The union also called for a sustainable framework to address LAUTECH’s funding and staff welfare challenges, saying adequate and predictable funding was necessary for the university to maintain teaching, research, accreditation and other academic responsibilities.

ASUU said it had made repeated efforts to resolve the issues through dialogue and formal channels, but claimed that its engagements had not produced the required implementation.

According to the union, the financial details required for implementation had already been provided, meaning the outstanding issue was now a decision by the government to provide the necessary funding and commence implementation.

The union said LAUTECH staff had continued to teach, supervise students, conduct research and sustain the academic calendar despite outstanding entitlements and other institutional challenges.

It warned that while it did not desire industrial action, dialogue without concrete results could not continue indefinitely.

“Dialogue must produce results. Repeated appeals without implementation cannot constitute a permanent industrial-relations strategy,” the union said.

ASUU LAUTECH appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene personally and urgently, direct the full implementation of the 2025 agreement and resolve the outstanding entitlements before the situation degenerates into industrial action.

The union also called on traditional institutions, religious bodies, alumni, students, parents, professional associations, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support efforts to protect the stability of the university’s academic calendar.
