Residents, Industrialists, Politicians Demand Urgent Repair of Iseyin-Abeokuta Road

The people of Iseyin, in Iseyin local government area, have called on the Federal Ministry of Works to give urgent attention to the poor state of the Iseyin-Abeokuta road.

The President, Ebedi Frontliners, Iseyin, Mr Segun Adeleke, who visited the collapsed section of the road at Oja-Agbe, Iseyin on Wednesday, said the federal road, which was last reconstructed during the first term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, was due for attention.

While addressing journalists at the inspection point, Adeleke said “we have been too silent on the neglect of this road, which serves many agrarian communities from Iseyin towards Ibarapa area of Oyo State till you get to Abeokuta in Ogun State.

“Many farm’s produce get spoilt along the road as trailers and trucks get stuck on the way or fall by the roadside because of the collapsed sections of the road.

“We call on the Honorable Minister for Works, Engr. David Umahi to please pay a visit to this road and see the condition, apart from the collapsed section at Oja-Agbe, another bridge at Ado-Awaye has also collapsed, as well as other points along the road to Abeokuta,” he said.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the Federal House of Representatives for Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola and Iwajowa, Hon. Saheed Alaran who also visited the collapsed section of the road on Wednesday, assured residents that the Federal Government would give the road the due attention.

He appreciated President Bola Tinubu for what he called his giant stride in constructing the coastal road and revamping many existing roads across Nigeria.

Others who spoke with newsmen during the inspection include the candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Hon. Dasola Fadiran, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Psaltry International Company, Mrs Yemisi Iranloye among others.

They called for a ‘State of Emergency’ on the Iseyin-Abeokuta road, citing its condition of disrepair and loss of manpower by farmers, truck drivers and other road users.
