Unity Forum Debunks False, Unverified Allegations Against NRS Executive Chairman
The attention of the South-West Unity Forum (SW UNITY FORUM) has been drawn to a malicious and misleading publication circulating in some quarters alleging that the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, was involved in or connected with the alleged secret transfer of $279 million from the Frontier Exploration Fund.
We wish to state categorically and without any ambiguity that the allegations are false, baseless, unsubstantiated and clearly designed to mislead the public and damage the hard-earned reputation of Dr. Zacch Adedeji.
The publication, which relied on an anonymous and unverifiable source described simply as a “Whistle Blower,” failed to provide credible documentary evidence establishing any wrongdoing by Dr. Adedeji. Rather than presenting verifiable facts, it relied heavily on speculation, insinuations and questions designed to create public suspicion.
It is important to state that serious allegations involving public funds must be supported by credible evidence and subjected to the appropriate legal and investigative processes. It is therefore irresponsible for any individual or group to attempt to indict a public officer in the court of public opinion without first establishing clear facts and evidence.
The attempt to drag Dr. Zacch Adedeji into this controversy appears to be a deliberate and calculated effort to distract him from his ongoing responsibilities and to tarnish the image of a public servant who has continued to demonstrate commitment to national service, accountability and institutional reform.
We are particularly concerned that those behind this publication have chosen the period of heightened political activities to circulate allegations capable of creating unnecessary controversy and undermining public confidence. Politics should not be allowed to degenerate into a tool for character assassination, misinformation and the deliberate destruction of reputations.
The SW UNITY FORUM therefore challenges the authors and promoters of the publication to present credible, verifiable and legally admissible evidence to support their allegations or immediately withdraw the publication and desist from further dissemination of false and damaging information.
We also call on relevant institutions and authorities, where necessary, to investigate any legitimate concerns through the appropriate channels. However, such investigation must be based on facts and evidence, and not on politically motivated allegations, anonymous claims or media trials.
We wish to make it clear that no amount of falsehood, propaganda or calculated misinformation will distract well-meaning Nigerians from recognising the contributions and commitment of Dr. Zacch Adedeji to public service and national development.
Members of the public, the media and all stakeholders are therefore urged to treat the said publication with the caution it deserves and avoid spreading unverified information capable of damaging individual reputations and creating unnecessary tension.
The SW UNITY FORUM remains committed to truth, justice, accountability and responsible public discourse. While we support transparency and the investigation of any genuine allegation of wrongdoing, we firmly reject the use of false and unsubstantiated allegations as instruments of political blackmail and character assassination.
We urge the public to disregard the publication in its entirety unless and until its authors are able to substantiate their claims with credible evidence from the appropriate authorities.
