Renewed Hope arrives Oyo With N1.37 Trillion Roads Projects | Femi Aremu

The approval of eight major federal road projects worth a combined N1.1375 trillion for Oyo State marks a defining moment in the state’s infrastructure development history. Beyond the sheer financial value of the projects, the approvals represent a strategic investment that promises to reshape transportation, commerce, agriculture and regional integration across the state’s three senatorial districts.

At the centre of the commendations from stakeholders is the Chairman of the National Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. ZacchAdedeji, whose commitment to the development of his home state has been widely acknowledged. He is being praised for facilitating the approvals and for consistently championing initiatives that strengthen infrastructure and accelerate economic growth.

The total value of the newly approved projects is particularly remarkable because it exceeds the cumulative value of all federal road projects executed in Oyo State during the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. This underscores the unprecedented scale of the current intervention and signals a new era of federal investment in the state’s road network. With this landmark infrastructure projects, the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has firmly birthed in Oyo State.

The landmark approvals include the N276 billion dualisation of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road, the N217 billion dualisation of the old alignment from Ijaye through the Federal Government College axis to Ilorin Road with a spur to Akinmorin, the N265 billion reconstruction of the Iseyin–Eruwa–Agbesi Road spanning Oyo and Kwara States, and the N110 billion reconstruction of the Ogbomoso–Oko–Ilupu Road linking Oyo and Osun States.

Also approved are the N98 billion construction of the 30-kilometre Idi-Araba–Ayede–Olodo Road, the N82 billion rehabilitation of Igbeti Road, the N74 billion construction of the Igbeti–Soro–Kishi Road, and the N15.5 billion construction of the 13-kilometre Badeku–Jaiye Road.

Collectively, these projects cut across the three senatorial zones in the State– Oyo Central, Oyo North and Oyo South Senatorial Districts, ensuring that every part of the state benefits from the unprecedented federal investment.

Indeed, the projects reflect Dr. Adedeji’s enduring passion for the progress of Oyo State. Although he occupies a national office, he has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to ensuring that Oyo receives its fair share of federal infrastructure, earning him widespread commendation from residents, community leaders and development advocates.

The socio-economic implications of the projects are enormous. Improved road infrastructure will reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from farming communities to urban markets and stimulate industrial expansion. Communities across Ogbomoso, Iseyin, Eruwa, Igbeti, Kishi, Olodo and several adjoining towns are expected to experience increased commercial activities, higher property values and greater opportunities for investment.

The construction activities themselves will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs for engineers, artisans, transport operators, suppliers and other service providers, while improved connectivity will enhance access to education, healthcare and other essential public services.

For farmers across Oyo North and adjoining communities, better roads will significantly reduce post-harvest losses by ensuring quicker access to markets. Manufacturers and traders will also benefit from lower logistics costs, making businesses more competitive and encouraging private sector investment.

The cultural significance of the projects is equally profound. Oyo State is home to some of the most historically important towns in Yorubaland, and improved road connectivity will strengthen cultural exchanges, promote tourism and facilitate easier access to important heritage sites and traditional festivals. Better roads will also deepen social integration among communities within Oyo State and neighbouring Kwara and Osun States.

The projects are expected to enhance regional trade, reinforce Oyo State’s strategic position as a transportation hub in the South-West and North-Central corridors, and improve security by opening up previously difficult-to-access communities.

For many stakeholders, the approvals represent far more than road construction. They signify confidence in Oyo State’s economic potential and a deliberate effort to unlock opportunities for sustainable development.

As implementation begins, expectations are high that the projects will be delivered to specification and within schedule. If successfully executed, they will not only transform the state’s infrastructure landscape but also stand as one of the most significant federal investments ever made in Oyo State.

For this historic achievement, many believe Dr. Zacch Adedejideserves recognition for his vision, dedication and commitment to facilitating transformative infrastructure that will benefit millions of people and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
