“Igba ti a ba fi win’ka la o fi san-an” is a Yoruba proverb that translates to “The manner in which a debt or an evil deed was contracted is the same manner it will be repaid”.
I still remember vividly some years back, seven years ago, when the then governorship aspirant, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, was struggling to become the governor of Oyo State. Specifically, in the build-up to the 2019 election, he employed some means to enhance his chance to come out triumphantly in the governorship election of that very year. In a bid to outsmart his major opponent, Chief Bayo Adelabu, Makinde started to unearth his predecessor’s loopholes through a propaganda carried out by an Ibadan-based Fuji musician.
In order to make the manipulative information more prominent and effective, he engaged the service of a ruffianly, rowdy and bullying Fuji musician, Taye Currency, to throw ‘jabs’ and unprintable speeches at the erstwhile governor of Oyo State, late Ajimobi.
Whether Makinde did this out of desperation or otherwise was not at all clear to many people at the time. But people later realised that the then governorship hopeful deliberately employed such a dastard method to gain more acceptance and make himself more widely approved.
After some years in government when Gov. Makinde began to execute the same policies he condemned Ajimobi for, many then realised that the former advertently used Taye Currency to rubbish any good project the latter executed.
Truth be told, that time was really tough for the then ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) and their candidate, Bayo Adelabu. It got to a point when people cared less to ask Makinde what he had in stock for people. All that people cared to see was Ajimobi’s bold face to move Oyo State to the next level.
The misinformation about Ajimobi’s administration was strongly propagated by Makinde’s henchmen, among whom was Taye Currency. Unfortunately people allowed the systematic dissemination of biased information to overshadow the late governor’s many outstanding projects.
I’m sure many still remember vividly the song: “E gbàgbé ìbò ni. Nígbà té è n wó’lé wa té è n wó ìsò wa e gbàgbé ìbò ni…” by Taye Currency? It was one of the songs that did the magic.
It later shocked many people when they noticed that the same Makinde, who pretended to be people’s advocate by condemning the demolition of buildings that gave way for development during Ajimobis tenure, could go to the extent of dismantling poor people’s houses while he reigns. What a life!
Of course the propaganda against Ajimobi worked for Makinde. He managed to become Oyo State governor. Throughout his tenures, Makinde enjoyed majority’s support until now that things start falling apart.
Now that the end of Makinde’s two-term tenure is fast approaching, he’s also experiencing the same feeling he created for his predecessor, Ajimobi. Like the way Taye Currency gave it to Ajimobi in 2019, another Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa, is knocking it hard on Gov. Makinde.
I learnt that some Makinde’s supporters have come out to condemn Osupa for fulfilling the law of karma which states that “What goes around comes around.”
One of Makinde’s political associate, Dare Adeleke, in one of his comments, described Osupa’s song at the event where Sen. Sarafadeen Ali declared his intention for governorship seat as a music for bastards. Without hesitation, I asked Adeleke to describe the songs Taye Currency sang throughout Gov Makinde’s campaigns years ago. I asked him to define the song Currency sang “Wèrè la fí wo wèrè” during the coronation of Olubadan, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja.
In my opinion, If Makinde’s men could praise Taye Currency for helping the governor to fulfill his desire, It’s totally unfair on their part to disapprove Osupa for strengthening the ambition of another governorship aspirant. It’s tit for tat.
