Hon. Murphy Olatunji, APC Rep Candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency Bye-election, coming up on the 16th August, 2025, is unarguably the most experienced candidate among the candidates fielded by the various political parties for the forthcoming Bye-election. Apart from being the most experienced politician and aspirant, other positive qualities stand him out to be able to outstand oppositional candidates.
Talking about experience, Hon. Murphy Olatunji contested for House of Representatives in the year 2003. In the election, Murphy Olatunji was not a loser, he was a victim of massive rigging and result manipulations by the PDP. Murphy Olatunji contested again in 2007 and he suffered the same crushing massive manipulations of results by the PDP. For those two periods, federal representations in Ibadan North by the PDP Representatives were woeful! The bitter experience of the undeserved defeat does not make Hon. Murphy a sore loser. It only makes him the most experienced Rep aspirant in Ibadan North who has always prepared for a resounding representation on behalf of the good people of Ibadan North.
Here again, in 2025, Murphy Olatunji scaled the hurdles of APC primary to emerge as the Rep candidate for Ibadan North Bye-election, made mandatory by the sad passing of the performing late Hon. Musiliu Akinremi Jagaban. What stands out here again about Murphy Olatunji is his consistency and focus. He has been consistent both as a staunch member of progressive politics and party and as an aspirant having his eyes on House of Representatives. Also, his focus is commendable as he refused to settle for any other elective post except membership of the Federal House of Representatives.
Political representation needs experience, consistency and focus. All these Hon. Murphy Olatunji has in beneficial abundance in his political resume. The good people of Ibadan North were robbed of progressive representation which Murphy Olatunji would have given them until late Hon Akinremi Jagaban contested under APC, won and gave a good account of himself in terms of vibrant oversight functions, huge empowerment of his constituents, and rapid provision of infrastructure to the federal constituency he represented. Who else is better to continue the great works done by late Hon Musiliu Akinremi than Hon Murphy Olatunji?
It is politically dangerous and is capable of foisting lacklustre oversight duties, lack of empowerment and infrastructural deficiency on Ibadan North if any of the political upstarts fielded as Rep candidates by PDP, SDP and ADC is allowed to emerge victorious. Hon. Murphy Olatunji’s loss in the previous elections is actually a plus to his pedigree as an experienced, consistent and focused candidate rather than a subject of mockery.
If the works of sterling representation left unfinished by late Hon Akinremi must continue, Hon Murphy Olatunji must win the Bye-election for the continued betterment of the good people of Ibadan North.
