The Olubadan In-Line traditional chiefs of Ibadanland have described the exit of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as a painful moment for all Ibadan indigenes.
The chiefs revealed this in a statement signed on behalf of their forum by their Secretary, the Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Remi Babalola, and Public Relations Officer, the Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadan land, Chief Monsur Arulogun.
In the statement, they described Oba Olakulehin as a custodian of history and culture who contributed immensely to the growth of Ibadan and Yorubaland.
The statement read: “The Olubadan In-Line Traditional Chiefs of Ibadanland express their sincere condolences, with deep sorrow and acceptance of divine will, on the passing of His Imperial Majesty Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin Ige-Olakulehin I, which occurred on July 7, 2025.
“As traditional chiefs of Ibadanland, we have collaborated with Baba within the established framework of the city’s traditional administration, and we can attest to his steadfast dedication and commitment to the progress and prosperity of Ibadanland.
“His life exemplified integrity, fairness, and compassion in leadership. Baba is not only a custodian of our rich history and culture but also a man of intellect and principle whose contributions extended beyond the palace into education, governance, military and national development. This will be greatly missed not only in Ibadanland but in the Nation at large
“We offer our prayers for the family, seeking strength during this profound loss, and pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.”
