A gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Dr. Olusola Ayandele, has made a strong case for the increased participation of women in the business of government at all tiers to bridge the gap of perceived gender imbalance and also facilitate participatory democracy which would position Nigeria among the best in the world.
Addressing members of a support group, Eruobodo Grassroots Movement, comprising female stakeholders across all socio-political and religious divide which paid him a solidarity visit at his Molete, Ibadan Campaign Office on Monday, Ayandele emphasized the important contributions which women make to the development of the society and the nation in general.
“An average woman is a home-maker and by extension, she is a nation maker by virtue of the critical roles she plays in the lives of others directly or indirectly. In politics, women make greater service without asking for much but experience have shown that if more women are allowed to serve in government, the society would be better for it. Therefore, I pledge to give the female folks better opportunity to serve if I emerged the governor in 2019.
The former University Don later in the day took his statewide consultation tour to the APC stakeholders in Oluyole and Ibadan North East local government councils as well as Akorede and Ibadan East local council development areas of the state capital. In all the places visited, party executive committee members at all levels, elected council officials and party faithful trooped out to pledge their support for his (Ayandele) governorship ambition.
Alhaji Waheed Akinleye and Hon. Adetokunbo Ekundayo, APC chairmen in Oluyole and Ibadan North East local government areas respectively, expressed satisfaction with the credentials being paraded Ayandele and also urged him not to rest in his oars to mobilize every stakeholder to his own advantage as the time of party primaries drew closer.
