Despite getting the support of Local Contractors in Oyo State, findings by OYOINSIGHT.COM has revealed another major project that Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde awarded to a non-indigenous company.
This newspaper had on Friday evening reported exclusively how Makinde awarded the construction of the 21km Airport-Ajia-New Ife Road-Amuloko road project to Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd.
The decision of the Governor to award the N8.52 billion contract to an Asaba-based company contravenes a promise that his administration would patronize only indigenous contractors, which he made during his campaign.
Reacting to this publication, a body, the Construction Professionals Association (Local Content Group), in a press statement, threw its weight behind the governor and noted that the publication was “laced with mischief and absolutely devoid of good faith.”
However, latest findings by this newspaper has revealed that the governor also awarded the contract of the rehabilitation of Awotan Solid Waste Dumpsite to a non-indigenous company — Macpresse West Africa Limited.
BusinessDay reports that Mr. Idowu Salawu, the CEO of the company, said the total value of investment injected into Oyo state economy is estimated at N12billion from private sectors just to add value chain into waste management in line with international best practice.
The contract was approved on the 28th of April, 2020.
The details of the company available on the website of the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, also gives credence to findings by this newspaper.
According to CAC website, the Company’s registration number is 346286 and it is located
at 322 Road, H Close, Block 1, flat 11, FESTAC Town, Lagos state.
It was registered on the 11th of November, 1998.
