Florence Ajimobi, wife of immediate governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, is officially launching Grandex, a supermarket she was said to have established 35 years ago, this afternoon.
Located at number 43, M.K.O Abiola Way, Ringroad, Ibadan, the business, according to associates of the former first family, has grown to become a major family business.
Before the one to be commissioned today, Grandex now has many outlets across the country.
Ajimobi had, in her book- My Life Like a Rainbow, explained how she started what has become a family business.
“A few years into marriage journey, with children coming in quick succession, it became impossible for me to keep up with everything. By the time I had Jibola in June 1984, when I resumed maternity leave, I could barely breathe. It was a herculean task to maintain a full-time job with three toddlers in tow.
“Despite all of my mum’s help to prevent same, I had to resign in November 1984. I thereafter charted a new course for myself in business, having been helped by my husband to register my company, Grandex in 1982. So when I pulled out of paid employment in 1984, I took some time to relax, take better care of my family and then strategize for my launch into the business world.” – Page 43, My Life Like a Rainbow – Florence Ajimobi.
