As at December 2018, Oyo State’s domestic debt stands at N91, 515, 756, 366.
A document viewed on the site of the debt management office by OYO INSIGHT confirms it.
The development put the pace-setter state on 15th position in the list of the states with highest domestic debt profiles.
Though efforts to get the debt profile of the state before the Abiola Ajimobi administration came on board in 2011 proved abortive, it was learnt the Adebayo Alao-Akala administration left a debt of N4.8 billion. Ajimobi had been quoted as saying that Alao-Akala allegedly withdrew the sum few day to his exit from government.
But in the build up to the just concluded election, Alao-Akala, before returning to work for the All Progressives Congress, APC, from his Action Democratic Party, ADP, said that he left at least N110bn in the coffers of the sate government when he left office in 2011. This was just as Alao-Akala said he did not leave any debt while exiting government
An infographic on BudgITng confirms the debt profile of the state to be ninety-one billion, five hundred and fifty-six million, seven hundred and fifty-six thousand, three hundred and sixty-six naira only as at December 2018.
