33 Months After, OYSCATECH Yet To Be Renamed After Late Ex-gov Lam-Adesina

    Close to three years after the government decided to honour late former governor Lamidi Adesina with the renaming of the Oyo State College of Agriculture, OYSCATECH, Igboora, it has yet to take effect.

    OYOINSIGHT.COM recalls that the administration of late former governor Abiola Ajimobi had, 15 days before the end of his tenure, renamed some roads and institutions after Lam-Adesina and others.

    Apart from the Ibadan-born late progressive leader, others who got honoured were former governors Rashidi Ladoja, Adebayo Alao Akala (now late); monarchs, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji (now late)  and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, (now late); late Adebayo Faleti; a philanthropist, late Adeseun Ogundoyin; renowned legal practitioner, Justice Atilade Ojo; educationists, Ambassador Olusola Sanu and Mrs Onikepo Akande.

    The development was conveyed in a statement released by then state information commissioner,  Toye Arulogun, added that some road and institutions would also be named after the then current governor, Ajimobi, now late.

    In May 2020, one year after Ajimobi had renamed it, the Adebo Ogundoyin-led Oyo Assembly passed a bill backing the renaming of Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa after his late dad and philanthropist, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, leaving that of OYSCATECH which should have been renamed Lam Adesina College of Agriculture, Igboora

    Others slated for renaming were the Maternal & Peadiatric Centre, Olodo Ibadan to Abiola Ajimobi Maternal & Paediatric Centre. Others are the newly constructed Zonal Mediation Centre, Ogbomosho to be named Justice Atilade Ojo Mediation Centre, while the Ilorin Express Junction-Ikoyi – Takie – Palace – Ogbomoso Grammar School road is now Soun Oyewumi Ajagungbade Road, and the Ibadan/Oyo Express/Iseyin-Owode with spur to Akesan-Palace and Old Ibadan-Oyo road is to be called Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi III road.

    Furthermore, Eleyele-Dugbe ANCE Road is now Oba Saliu Adetunji road and Idi-Ape – Bashorun Akobo Road is now Abiola Ajimobi way.

    The Mokola flyover was named Transformation Flyover, Challenge – Efunsetan Road is to be known as Lam Adesina road while Ijokodo – Apete road is to be called Ambassador Olu Sanu road.

    With regards to roads, the Elebu Road was officially named Alao-Akala Way, Monatan – Olodo Road now Rashidi Ladoja, Onireke-Agbarigo Road will now be known as Onikepo Akande Road and Festac Road, Mokola now Adebayo Faleti Road.

    Arulogun, in the statement, had said that the process for the amendment of the enabling laws to back up the renaming of the institutions will commence immediately.
