The Oyo State Police Command, on Thursday, confirmed the death of three people, who were crushed by a truck at the Oritamerin Market area of Ibadan on Wednesday.
The police also said the injured traders and passersby were evacuated to a hospital in the area, where they are currently being treated.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Lawrence Fadeyi, told PUNCH Metro that reports available to the command indicated that three people died in the accident, but sources said the accident claimed up to 11 lives.
Fadeyi stated, “The casualty figure is three. The truck driver was descending the Oritamerin Hill from the Mapo roundabout when he lost control of the vehicle.
“He crushed innocent people trading on the road and passersby. Those who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital, where they are still receiving treatment.”
