Over 24 hours after the Supreme Court ruled that the removal of duly elected local government chairmen and councillors by Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, is illegal, neither the governor nor his aides has reacted to the ruling, an action that is unusual of them.

OYOINSIGHT.COM reported on Friday that the Supreme Court awarded a cost of N20 million against the Makinde led administration. That was after it also asked the government to pay salaries and allowances of the outgoing chairmen and councillors before August 2021.

The court noted that the failure of the state government to comply with the ruling in the next six months will be regarded as a contempt of court on the part of the Attorney General of the state.

Since the ruling was officially pronounced, Makinde has continued to face criticisms from members of the public who believe his unconstitutional actions will cost the state millions of naira.

While the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted, the governor and some of his vocal aides have unusually kept mum in the face of recent developments.
