The aspiration of Dr Yunus Akintunde to govern Oyo State received a major boost yesterday as the Iba of Kisi, Oba Moshood Oyekola Lawal, threw his weight behind him.
This is just as the monarch commended him for the works he did while he was commissioner for works in the state.
Akintunde is contesting the 2019 governorship seat on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
The Oyo-born politician, who was in Kisi, headquarters of Irepo local government area of the state, had earlier met party chieftains and stakeholders in the 5 local government areas in Ogbomosoland.
Akintunde, who would later visit party members at Oorelope local government area, promised not to neglect any part of the state if given the chance to rule from May 29, 2019.
According to a statement made available to OYO INSIGHT by his media office, Akintunde was quoted to have said that “my many years in government and educational attainment have afforded me opportunity to know some things, especially how government works. I am not here to boast Kabiyesi. I know what we lack as a people. I want to tell you that we will not fail sir. The core areas of our programmes are agriculture, health, education, youth employment, security of lives and others. We have our blueprints already. And we will soon roll them out immediately after our party primaries.”
Speaking, Oba Lawal described Akintunde as one of his beloved sons, adding that he has no doubt as to his capacity to deliver if he emerges governor.
The monarch explained that “apart from the fact that he has been around in the political scene for long, he has done many things that amazed me. He is fit and qualified to govern this state.”
He later blessed Akintunde’s aspiration.
