Oyo State health commissioner, Dr Azeez Adeduntan, is serious with his governorship ambition. He may resign his appointment today to enable him contest the 2019 governorship primaries on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Close associates of the Ibadan-born politician said he has packed all his personal effects from his office. This is coming 2 days after Governor Abiola Ajimobi told serving political office holders within his administration to resign today if they want to contest the 2019 elections.
Ajimobi had, at a meeting with governorship aspirants on Saturday, asked his aides who are aspiring to resign as this, he said, would allow them to focus more on the various political consultations.
“Tendering their resignations will give them the opportunity to concentrate in vying for whatever they are vying for. And it will also afford others the opportunity to serve in government. You can’t eat your cake and have it. Government is not about gambling. We don’t want gamblers in our government,” Ajimobi had added.
The ‘International Surgeon’, as he is fondly called, is one of few aspirants who have been in the race for long. He had secured a campaign office at Yemetu area of Ibadan North local government not long after the 2015 elections. His pet project- Dr Azeez Popoola Adeduntan Foundation, DAPAF, has assisted a lot of people.
However, Adeduntan could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing this report.
