Ahead of the fast approaching general elections, an Oyo socio-political organization, Itesiwaju Oyo Coalition Movement(ICM) has alleged Oyo State Government of hijacking the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC continuing voters registration exercise and inducing unsuspecting voters with money in exchange for their Permanent Voters Cards(PVC).
According to the release made available to the press through its coordinator, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun said it was expedient to alert the general public across the 33 local government areas of the state of one of strategic but desperate tools the ruling administration has devised to take over the electoral body duty and subvert the will of the electorate.
He further revealed that all the chairmen of local government(LG), council development areas (LCDA) alongside party leaders on the mandate of the governor in conjunction with some faceless INEC staffs have been compromising the integrity of the civic responsibility by denying people to freely enrol for the exercise.
Olatubosun specifically lamented the brazen conduct of local government chairmen in oke ogun and Ogbomosho zones of the state ,where some political appointees ( two for oke ogun, three for Ibadan and one for ogbomosho, and ibarapa) as well as APC stalwarts have been assigned to be going round the neighborhoods to buy PVC from the residents and further restraining people who are willing to enrol for the ongoing voters registration.
The group therefore called on the hierarchy of the Independent Electoral Commission(INEC) to beam its searchlight on its workforce as unscrupulous politicians tasked by the state government are hell bent on dragging the image of the electoral umpire in the mud in materializing their inordinate dream in the next general elections.
