Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 election, Engr Seyi Makinde, has cleared the air on the controversy surrounding who is the party’s authentic candidate in Oyo South senatorial district.
OYO INSIGHT recalled how Barr Bayo Lawal defeated Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi, a former deputy governor, at the primaries.
Lawal, who is now the Director General of Makinde Campaign Organization would later drop the ticket for Dr Kola Balogun. Balogun is one of the 12 aggrieved governorship aspirants of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Gbolarumi would later approach the court to challenge Balogun’s eligibility.
Speaking on Crossfire, a weekly political programme on Fresh 105.9 FM, Makinde said the party has submitted Balogun’s name.
According to him: “Sometimes you have jesters. I am clear about that. Balogun is our candidate in Oyo South. It is lawless for someone whose name was not submitted to go about, sponsoring jingles and pasting posters. Why can’t he wait for the court.? Any other person coming here to lay claim to that ticket is a joker.”
