The Oyo State chapter of Zenith Labour Party on Tuesday raised the alarm that the lives of its candidates contesting the forthcoming general elections were under threat.
The party’s secretary, Bimbo Adepoju, and its Oyo South Senatorial candidate, Remi Olajide, on Tuesday visited the state police headquarters to deliver a “Save Our Soul” letter to the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude.
The party, in a letter signed by Adepoju who is also the party’s House of Representatives’ candidate for Ido and Ibarapa East, said its candidates’ billboards and posters were being destroyed at different locations.
The party said, “We wish to report to your office the destruction of our candidates’ billboards and posters across Oyo State, which is mostly rampant in Ibadan and its environs, by our political opponents.
“We want the commissioner to know that all our candidates’ banners and billboards belong to advertisement practitioners (APCON) who have duly fulfilled their obligations to the Oyo State Government.
“ZLP as a political party is being confronted with a great task of stopping her aggrieved members from showing their displeasure with the consistent destruction of her candidates’ properties and threat posed to our members and candidates.”
