The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo Central Senatorial district, Yunus Akintunde, says northerners within the party would decide the party’s presidential running mate.
Recall that the party has been involved in intense politicking to decide the running mate to its Presidential flagbearer, Bola Tinubu, amid reports that a Muslim-Muslim ticket would be floated.
Speaking with reporters at a stakeholders conference organised by the Political Awareness Group, an association of Muslim Professionals and Technocrats in Nigeria, the former commissioner noted that it’s about winning election.
“We have a presidential candidate who can win the election, which is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It’s now for the northern to decide who can win elections from their side. It’s not from us. Look, in Ekiti, the last polls APC won, you have a governorship candidate and Deputy that are Christians, and they won. Those are the people that can win elections.
“Would you ask the people to bring someone that can’t win an election in their area? It’s beyond us. We can’t choose Vice-Presidency for them. We have chosen the Presidency from the South. It’s their responsibility.”
Speaking further, he maintained that he is the most qualified candidate to represent Oyo Central senatorial district at the red chamber come 2023.
“I am in the race to serve and represent my people. And to give them quality representation,” he added.
