As the suspicion of a new pump price regime grows among Nigerians, the Oyo State chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Ogundiran, has said the Organized Labour cannot fight again for the masses.

It would be recalled that there was an attempt to adjust pump price of petrol last week until the Federal government made some clarifications.

Inspite of these clarifications, many Nigerians are of the opinion that the government has only postponed the evil day.

Consequently, the masses are looking up to pressure groups like the Nigeria Labour Congress( NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to stand and fight for the masses.

But fielding questions from Aanuoluwapo Omorinde on BOTTOM LINE – a weekly political programme IBR 92.5 over the Weekend monitored by OYOINSIGHT.COM, Ogundiran ruled out the possibility of the Labour staging a protest to kick against a hike in pump price of fuel or engage the government in that regard.

According to him, “Labour can only fight for the interest of the Workers because the Obasanjo government had challenged our right on this in court and won. Where were Nigerians when the government took us to court seeking an interpretation of the law?”.

“The Obasanjo governemnt took Labour to court seeking an interpretation of the law and it won. So, we can only fight for issues affecting our members (Workers)”.

When reminded of how the Adams Oshiomhole led NLC challenged the government over issues bothering on the socio-economic policies of the government, the Labour Leader replied saying “that was when the problem started”.

He noted that Labour is helpless because of the provisions of the law and charged Civil Organizations to rise up where and when necessary.
