The Supreme Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital territory, has affirmed the victory of Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu and Hon. Olusunbo Olugbemi as the duly elected lawmakers representing Oyo Central senatorial district and Oluyole federal constituency respectively.
Both lawmakers, who are seeking re-election under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
OYO INSIGNT recalls how Olugbemi’s challenger, Mr Lawrence Olujide, had questioned his emergence as APC candidate in the 2015 general election.
Bisi Ilaka, Sunmonu’s kinsman, had challenged her victory at the polls.
Ilaka, who has defected from Accord to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will now be challenging Sunmonu’s re-election bid.
Reacting to the judgement, Sunmonu gave glory to God and enjoined her supporters to massively troop out and vote for her on 16th February, 2019, promising to continue with her good efforts to ensure a better lot for the people of Oyo Central.
