Between tomorrow and Saturday, 15th October, 2022, the four local government areas in Oyo town would be joyous mood as Akeem Adeyemi, son of late Ọba Lamidi Adeyemi, Alaafin of Oyo and current lawmaker representing AFIJIO/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West federal constituency would be putting smiles on the faces of some of his constituents.
Ọba Adeyemi, this newspaper recalls, died earlier this year, after reigning for over 50 years.
At the event, which was put together to mark the 84th posthumous birthday of the highly revered departed monarch, 1,000 constituents would be empowered with cash while transformers, boreholes, blocks of classrooms and ICT centers would be donated, installed and handed over to deserving communities and schools.
While officials of the ministry of sports and youth development would be coming to inspect facilities at the mini stadium facilitated by the lawmaker, free medical services have been slated for Kara (Atiba) on Tuesday; Ilora (AFIJIO) on Wednesday and Akesan Market (Oyo West LG And Oyo East) on Thursday.
Friday would witness the inauguration of a block of three classrooms (Oba Adeyemi III Block) at Oranyan Grammar School and Oba Adeyemi III ICT Centre at St Bernardine’s Grammar School. After the Jumat service, the entourage would move to Maradesa Area in Isokun area of the town where a motorized borehole facilitated by the legislator would be handed over to the community.
In Awe and Ematuwo, Oyagbe, Surulere & Soro communities, transformers would be donated, installed and energized by the lawmaker.
Gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo 2023 election, Teslim Folarin, who is also representing Oyo central for a third term and Yunus Akintunde, who is seeking to replace Folarin at the senate would be special guests.
Apart from the duo, Prince Ajibola Afonja, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Engr. Idris Adeoye and Arc Bayo Ajisafe would be special guests when Skimeh would be giving cash support to 500 Tinubu/Shettima grassroot mobilizers and 500 petty traders. The event is expected to take place at Ode Aremo.
On Thursday, 20th October, 2022, Skimeh, who is the chairman of the house of representatives committee on communications would be inaugurating the mini stadium with a novelty match. Sports minister, Sunday Dare and CEO, Ace Supermarket, Yinka Afonja would be special guests.
Skimeh, as the two-term lawmaker and former council chairman is known, said though his late is no more. “However, the legacies he left behind for the Yoruba, especially the great people of Oyo, linger. That is why we have lined up some projects for inauguration to mark the 84th posthumous birthday of the late Monarch.”
