Residents of communities in Ayegun-Oleyo as well as commuters in the Oluyole local government area can now finally heave sigh of relief as the lawmaker representing Oyo central senatorial district, Dr. Yunus Akintunde has finally facilitated the construction of the road.

Tapping into solid network he has built over the years, Akintunde, before his election, had, together with his friends, decided to reconstruct a kilometer of the bad portion of the road.

The Oyo-born politician who believes that  commuters within Ayegun, Oleyo, Odo Ona Elewe and others areas must experience new lease of life, had, for close to a year since he was inaugurated, lobbied to get the federal government construct the whole stretch of the road.

His efforts, however, yielded fruit when the federal government, after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting of March 25th, 2024 awarded the contract to Messrs Xenon Ltd. The award letter by the ministry of works to the contractor was dated April 4th, 2024.

Expressing joy that his prayer was answered, Akintunde said he was grateful to President Bola Tinubu as well as his colleagues and friends for the feat, adding that he couldn’t have done it single-handedly.

The APC chieftain who expressed sympathy with the people of the affected areas for the years they have had to wait for, asked them not to “cooperate with the contractors when they move to site. Though there will be little hindrance to vehicular and human movement during the period, it will be completed at a very good date. Remember I promised to get something permanent done to the road. Remember I even solicited my friends’ support to tar a kilometer of the road even before I was voted in. I am just grateful I had the opportunities of assisting and I did it. Other communities and local government areas will also benefit from our gestures.  So be rest assured that I am coming to do more,” he added.

“We have many long-lasting programmes in our bag and we won’t stop at anything to achieve them,” he added.
