Finally, two-term member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, has secured the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to contest for the third term.
Elected in 2011 to represent Ibadan North West/ South West federal constituency, he chairs the House committee on communications.
In his bid to recontest the seat in 2015, he met a fierce opponent in Samuel Kola-Ajadi who he defeated with a vote.
Fijabi, who will be 41 on 18th October, 2018, contested the primaries alongside Honourables Folake Ogunkoya-Oshinowo, Rotimi Ajanaku, Yinka Gbolahan, Abiodun ikumogunniyi and Kehinde Subair.
OYO INSIGHT had exclusively reported how Governor Abiola Ajimobi pleaded with other aspirants to step down for Fijabi because of his ‘loyalty, experience and ranking. On the contrary, Ajanaku who had the backing of the First Lady, Mrs Florence Ajimobi was said to have disagreed. The offer of a commissionership position did not even move him. That led to the conduct of primaries.
At the primaries which started around 7 pm last night, the duo of Gbolahan and Ikumogunniyi and others officially withdrew from the race, leaving the duo of Fijabi and Ajanaku to slug it out.
After the keenly contested election, Fijabi garnered 299 votes against Ajanaku’s 279 votes. There were 8 void votes.
