But for the manager and a team of policemen from the commissioner of police, only God knows what would have happened at BOVAS early Sunday morning.
Sources told OYOINSIGHT.COM that trouble had started around 6 am when some uniformed men came and started making way to the gate of the filling station, not minding those who had queued from the previous nights.
“We had thought they were from a monitoring team until they attempted breaking the gate, moving their vehicles nearer. The manager came at the right time and it was discovered they wanted to use their uniform and guns to scare away those who have queued legally. It was at the point that the manager insisted nothing like that would not happen. He had told them to go and queue.
”They said they were not going to queue. They first said they were from the office of Governor Seyi Makinde. Meanwhile people had started moving towards them, saying they won’t allow that. Later, they said they were from Sen. Teslim Folarin. The manager insisted he won’t allow anybody jump the queue. Soon, men of the Nigeria Police Force, from the commissioner of police came. We didn’t know who had called them. They were not enough to counter the mobile police who uniformed. So there was reinforcement.
“It was later we got to know that an Ibadan-born tax consultant is the one they are working for. And they had devised that means in order to get fuel at all cost, not considering those who slept at the station,” the source added.
Many people who were at the scene, including those who were on the queue were full of praises for the manager and the CP, who they said saved the day.
According to them, those people would have cheated them and cause trouble if not for the manager who stood his ground before the police came.
This newspaper understands that BOVAS is one of the few fuel stations that has not sold premium motor spirit, PMS, beyond the fixed price, especially since the scarcity began.
