Reactions As Community Loses Transformer After Youths Demand ‘Settlement’ From Akin Alabi

Reps member, Akin Alabi, has revealed the action he took when some youths demanded to be paid before a transformer can be delivered to their community.
On his official Twitter handle, Alabi, who recently lost his 85-year-old father revealed that a community in the constituency he represents at the House of Representatives had requested for a transformer, which he bought and delivered to the community.
However, some youths in the community demanded to be ‘settled’ before the transformer could be delivered.
The legislator said upon learning of the situation, he asked those who had gone to do the delivery to take the transformer to another community, who had also requested for a transformer.
He tweeted, “I bought a transformer for a community that requested for it in my constituency. When the delivery people got there, the “youths” there said they must “settle” boys before they drop it. They called me and I told them to take it to another community that asked as well. Their loss.”
Alabi represents the Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency in Oyo State.
His tweet lead many Twitter users to share their encounters with people, you demand to be paid before initiatives that would benefit a community could be done.
A Twitter user, Opara Kingsley said, “That was how a big boss wanted to construct the road in my area here in Lekki but the agberos requested for money before they will allow him do it. Oga jejely keep his money and the road has been hell in this raining season.”
Blessings without measure said, “Was tarring internal roads of another community and the chief and the youth were charging 300k every day to secure the equipment. 150K for chief, 150k for youths. It is a jungle out there.”
Samuel Mbagwu said, “A man built a five-star hotel but the road that leads there is terrible. I heard he wanted to rehabilitate the road but the Baale and boys are demanding N70M from him to give permission. He has backed down.”
Another Twitter user, @Chihope21 said, “Very Bad I reside in a community, where there’s a Chinese company. They offered to supply the community with light, the Bale’s said no that is money they want. This is a community that the government never gives electricity for years. Pathetic.”
