Adeolu Akande, chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has congratulated Muslims across Oyo State as Ramadan starts.
According to Akande, who is a professor of comparative politics and director at the Centre for Presidential Studies at the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, the fasting period presents another opportunity for Nigerians to pray God to lead our leaders right.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain also enjoined politicians and especially political office holders to start practicing what they preach and desist from making empty promises to the masses.
“While I congratulate the Muslim Ummah for witnessing yet another Ramadan, I wish to urge them, just like I have been advising them, to help use the Holy month to pray God to help confront our problems.
“To be honest, we need divine intervention. In Oyo State, apart from the case of unemployment and deteriorating infrastructure, we are confronted by the issue of insecurity. Added to this is the incessant fire outbreaks in major markets in Ibadan, the capital city especially. We all remember the Araromi Motor Spare Parts and Iso Plank markets inferno within two weeks. We cannot fold our arms because we are in the opposition. While we are talking to relevant agencies within our own contacts, it is pertinent for our fasting Muslim faithful to help seek divine intervention so as to direct our leaders to the right path.
“May this Ramadan be one in which all our heart desires and prayers would be answered. May our state begin to witness peace from now. May we celebrate more of Ramadan on earth. I wish you a fruitful Ramadan,” Akande added.
