There was protest as Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s cousin and two term former senator, Oloye Teslim Folarin, was forced on members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as their candidate for Oyo Central senatorial district election in 2019.
One of his main challengers, Hon. Temitope Olatoye Sugar, has been penciled down for a return to the House of Representatives where he currently represents Akindele/Lagelu federal constituency.
The three other aspirants from Oyo town- Barr. Wakeel Oyedemi, Mr. Faozey Nurudeen and Hon. Bimbo Kolade as well as Olu Akintola were left with nothing.
Ajimobi, OYO INSIGHT gathered, had on Tuesday night ordered all the aspirants to withdraw for Folarin because “I have promised him,” promising to pay the expenses already spent by each of the aspirants.
While others agreed to step down and signed the “agreement form,” Oyedemi was said to have insisted on primaries even if he will lose. Ajimobi reconvened the meeting on Wednesday and asked party leaders to persuade them to step down.
The decision angered the aspirants’ supporters who threatened to work against the party during the general election.
It would later be gathered that Ajimobi had submitted his name together with that of Senator AbdulFatai Buhari who won unopposed and Folarin to the national headquarters of the party as APC candidates for the three senatorial districts.
