People who attended last Thursday’s pro-Tinubu rally in Ibadan are not up to those who turn up for that weekly local government meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ibadan North West local government, Akeem Olatunji, publicity secretary of the PDP, has said.
This was just as he said that the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, is full of propaganda.
Olatunji, who made these known while fielding questions from Aanuoluwapo Omorinde on BOTTOM LINE, an Impact Business Radio, IBR, political program over the weekend, said that Oyo PDP, as presently constituted, is a coalition on its own and as such, no coalition can dislodge Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, from office in 2023.
The party’s mouthpiece explained that with the harvest of notable opposition figures into the PDP, there is nothing to fear.
His words “I am from the Accord tendencies, our candidate for Oyo South Senatorial district, Joseph Tegbe is from the APC, our candidate for Oyo North is from the APC, the commissioner for education, Barrister Abdul-Raheem AbdulRahman is from the Zenith Labour Party,, the commissioner for agriculture is from the ADP/APC tendency and many more”.
Describing the opposition party APC as sinking party, he dismissed the rally the youths of the party had for the presidential candidate of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Ibadan last Thursday as a charade saying it was crowded by the aged and not youths.
When told of the party’s claim that it only “tested the microphone” with the rally and that it was attended majorly by APC youths from Ibadan, Olatunji said “the rally that had Olamiju, the son of late governor from Ogbomoso in attendance and other people from Oke-Ogun. What is their number? The rally that was led by Senator Teslim Folarin and those “Mamas”. A state rally that was not even up to the number of those who attended our local government meeting in Ibadan North-West yesterday. They should forget propaganda”.
Olatunji alleged that the APC has launched a campaign of calumny against the ruling party. Speaking on the alleged attack on Prince Akeem Adeyemi popularly known as “Skimeh” by PMS boys, the PDP Spokesperson said it was an orchestrated plan to paint the government in bad light adding that the APC is promoting such narratives to gain public sympathy. When asked to justify his claim on this subject matter, the Engineer turned Politician simply asked “Is he representing Egbeda to have been attacked at Alakia? Akin Alabi who is representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal Constituency live among the people, has he been attacked? No! Who knew he (Skimeh) was in the vehicle? I tell you it’s just a plan. They had a rally the other day. Who could have tried such when they were in power at a time when campaign has not started? They destroy their billboards and blame the ruling party whereas they are the ones who destroy their thing. It’s a ploy but I tell you, they have failed”.
He denied the insinuation that the PDP is in crisis warning that the invitation to Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and the Chairman of Nigeria Governor’s ‘Forum to open the Idi-Ape-Akobo-Odogbo Barracks road should not be politicized.
