It was a rousing welcome for the lawmaker representing Oyo central senatorial district, Dr Yunus Akintunde, on Monday as the management of the University of Uyo as well as the Yoruba community in Akwa-Ibom State.

Barely had the lawmaker, who is an ally of the senate president and former governor of the state, Obot Godswill Akpabio, landed at the Victor Attah airport that they besieged the arrival wing to receive him.

Akintunde, who is the first Nigerian to bag a doctorate degree in energy and environment, is in the capital city ahead of the 2nd edition of the Vice Chancellor’s Public Lecture, where he is billed to deliver a lecture titled, “Addressing Energy Poverty in Nigeria: Insights and Implications for Rural Areas.

The lecture, according to the organizers, is expected to dissect critical issues surrounding energy access in Nigeria’s rural areas and offer insights into potential solutions to combat energy poverty.

The carnival-like movement later moved from the airport to the waiting hands of the vice chancellor, Professor Nyaudoh U. Ndaeyo, where the university’s director of physical planning conducted the lawmaker, who chairs the senate committee on environment, to erosion sites across the institution.

He was later hosted to a dinner by the university management.
