Code On Your Own(CodeOYO), a codecamp initiative for tech enthusiasts with a mission to educate, connect and prepare the trainee in Oyo town for the evolving 21st century tech-space in Nigeria, has began in the ancient town.

The goal, according to the organizers, is to build a network of creative young people that will put Oyo town on the global tech Map.
The maiden event held between September 25th and 28th at NULGE Hall, Òyó West LG, Oyo.
Facilitators at the event included young experts drawn from different fields across the Banking and Technology sector which includes Joshua Koya, Co-founder & CEO Eazycrypt.co; Mayowa Egbewumi, Senior Software Engineer at Andela; Temitope Adeyeha, Data Scientist at Access Bank PLC; Ayobamiji Iyiola, Head of Projects at CKDigital, and Ayooluwa Oyewo, Full-Stack Engineer at Mettalloids limited.
The founder and the convener, Michael Toyinbo,graduated from Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo Unversity in 2015 and currently works as a Data and Technical Analyst at Access Bank PLC. Michael and the facilitators are young people with the passion for tech and social good who have joined hands to equip trainees with hard and soft skills needed to improve their job worthiness and self employability in the town and Nigeria at Large.
Participants at the event were taught the following project management, digital project management, introduction to block chain technology, introduction to data, data analytics and data science, introduction to web development (front end and back end), and android introductory guide for beginners.
Added to these were practical training sessions on installation of MySQL workbench, Visual studio and Android studio. After each session, trainees were able to create their first Database, Website and Android App.

CodeOYO gave the participants the opportunity to interact with industry experts, receive industry based training, showcase their projects and connect with one another.
One of the beneficiaries, who was happy for the opportunity, thanked the organizers, saying that “The CODEOYO programme was nothing short of unique and amazing, infact many people found it very difficult to believe that such breathtaking and quality training is happening just for free. Michael, you demonstrated it all, and seriously I learned a whole lot.”

In addition, after-training mentorship will be provided by the Facilitators to ensure trainees could further improve and build on the vital skills and knowledge they’ve learnt.
