Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola Akinola, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, yesterday paid a condolence visit to the families of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Soun of Ogbomoso and Adebayo Alao-Akala, former governor of Oyo State.
Oba Oyewumi and Alao-Akala, OYOINSIGHT.COM understands, died one month apart. While the monarch joined his ancestor on December 12, 2021, the former governor breathed his last on January 12, 2022.
The Islamic leader, who arrived just before the national leader and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, entered, was received by the wives and children of the departed monarch.
De-Damak, as the businessman is known, extolled the virtues of late Oba Oyewumi, adding that he would be sorely missed.
His impacts, De-Damak explained, are everywhere. “This was someone who was doing well before being called upon to fill the vacant seat of his forefathers. He did not shy away from coming home. And he did not also disappoint when he was installed. His reign witnessed many development efforts. Ogbomoso will forever remember him.”
Dr. Aderemi Oyewumi, who spoke on behalf of the family, thanked De-damak and others for mourning with them.
The Ibadan-born business mogul, who later proceeded to the home of the Alao-Akalas, was received by Olamiju and his siblings.
In a brief exhortation, De-Damak urged the wives, children, family and loyalists of the former governor to be consoled by the fact that he did well while alive. “I understand your grief. No matter what, nobody would love his loved one to die though we know all of us will die at our appointed time. Obviously, with the commiseration notes you have seen, you need not be told that your father did well while alive. He was a man of the people and people’s man. As governor, he did well and people cannot forget his administration.”
