The Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in the Red Chambers, Senator Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, Ph.D, was part of a powerful delegation of 19 that paid a condolence visit last Tuesday (11th June) to the household of the Imam of Grand Mosque of Medina (Masjid An Nabawi Al-Sharif), Sheikh Abdulmohsen bin Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Qasim, after news of the passing of his mother, Umm Farwa, broke on Monday the 10th day of June.
The Imam who also acts as Katib of the Mosque as well as a Shariah Court Judge in Medina accorded the delegation a warm welcome as he was evidently delighted by the visit.
The courtesies were mutual and cast a positive indication that Nigeria is very highly regarded in terms of both spiritual and diplomatic engagements in Saudi Arabia. In a video clip of the visit, the delegation condoled the revered Imam and his family and prayed for the departed soul.
In his response, he pointedly expressed his profound gratitude to the delegation and prayed for peace and prosperity in Nigeria especially in the wake of the commemoration of Democracy Day.
Former governor of Zamfara and erstwhile chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum, Distinguished Senator AbdulAziz Yari, led the delegation accompanied by Senators Yunus Akintunde, Aminu Tambuwwal, Abdul Ningi, Shehu Umar Buba among others from both chambers of the National Assembly.
The Prophet’s mosque has a very important significance in Islam and the Hajj operation. It is the second mosque built by the Holy Prophet Muhammad and it is the second largest and holiest site in Islam after Masjid Al-Haram in Mecca.
Imam Abdulmohsen 57, became an imam of the Prophet’s mosque at that age of 30 .
