As the 2019 election governorship draws nearer, the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) Oyo state on Friday unveiled its deputy governorship candidate, Engineer Raufu Aderemi Olaniyan in a ceremony attended by major stakeholders of the party held at the Banquet hall, Premier hotel, Mokola, Ibadan.
Olaniyan, is a former Permanent Secretary in the Oyo state public service who hails from Igboho, Orelope Local government area of the state.
He was a also a former General Manager, Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSTROMA) and governorship aspirant under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was presented to party faithful by the state chairman Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha.
The party also inaugurated a 162 man campaign council that will drive the campaign of the party by the party’s legal adviser, Barrister Idowu Oyeleke.
Alhaji Mustapha while addressing the party supporters said the choice was arrived at after due consultation with major stakeholders with a view to ensure victory for the party.
He also charged members to comb the nooks and crannies of the state and work with real politicians to ensure that they canvass votes from all eligible voters in the state for PDP.
Also, the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Seyi Makinde unveiled his manifesto tagged “Oyo state roadmap for accelerated development 2019-2023”.
The ceremony was like a re-unification of the various factions of the party, as all party leaders across the length and breadth of the state in their goodwill message called on the gubernatorial candidate of the party and other leaders to work as a united team to ensure victory at the polls.
While unveiling his manifesto, Makinde said they have discovered the bane of major societal problems in the state is poverty.
He stressed that the party designed its manifesto to address two major sectors where several abandoned projects lie and where the state usually gets enough revenue, generate employment to stop the state’s over reliance on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He then promised that his administration through constitutional means will cater for two sects of people who have been neglected in the state; people living with disabilities, aged and vulnerables in the society.
He said “I know the task ahead us is difficult, but we are ready to surmount these tasks before we know and can identify them already, we are prepared to solve them without making excuses while in government.
“I want to charge the campaign council to work together to secure the trust and confidence of the electorates in order for them to vote massively for us during February election.”
The former Minister of state, Federal Capital Territory, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide led charged the party hierarchy to be united.
