The crisis rocking the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is far from over as two of the state executives last night disagreed with each other over who has the right to convoke meetings.
OYO INSIGHT learnt that the party had fixed a meeting of the executives of the party for this morning, 9th July, 2018 at Party Secretariat Molete, Ibadan.
Secretary of the party, Hon. Wasiu Adeleke had scheduled the meeting for 11 am.
Less than 24-hours to the meeting, the party’s public relations officer, Engr Akeem Olatunji issued another statement, saying he has the mandate of the chairman to inform the Excos of the cancellation of the planned meeting due to “crucial meeting of PDP stakeholders in Abuja tomorrow (9th July, 2018).
Speaking with OYO INSIGHT, a party chieftain who didn’t want name in print said Olatunji’s message should be ignored, explaining that “It’s true that our Chairman, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha has an engagement in Abuja tomorrow and the constitution of the party stipulates that if the chairman is not available, one of the Vice chairmen could act on his behalf.
“It’s the constitutional responsibility of the State Secretary, Hon.Wasiu Adeleke to inform all authentic members of our great party for a meeting,” he added.
Another source confided in OYO INSIGHT, disclosing that “the meeting had been cancelled since Friday. Adeleke just want to cause confusion; he is no longer the secretary. In fact, I can tell you that the NWC’s decision has been reversed. Emiola has been returned as secretary. They will make it public this week.”
Efforts to speak with the party chairman as at the time of filing this story proved abortive.
The party has been factionalized along former governor Rashidi Ladoja and Engr. Seyi Makinde’s lines.
While Adeleke is a loyalist of Makinde, Olatunji is a loyalist of Ladoja.
Adeleke recently replaced Hon. Wasiu Emiola of Ladoja faction has secretary after the national working committee of the party decided to harmonize the Excos in the state.
Though Ladoja and his supporters have threatened to leave the party if the NWC doesn’t return to the status quo, Emiola has approached the court for redress.
Below are the two statements:
