A chairmanship aspirant and former ex-officio member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Oyo State, Ademola Babalola on Friday tasked the Electoral Committee set up by the outgoing executive of the union to be transparent, and ensure strict adherence to the constitution of the union.
Babalola who addressed the committee shortly after picking the nomination form to contest the December 18thelection, said, “you would all recall the uproar that greeted your nomination two weeks ago but as a unionist who believe so much in God, I have told my supporters to put all that behind them and cooperate fully with you.
“This is our union and we have no other place to go. Your committee should detach yourself from any form of influence and pressure and do that which is just, equitable and Godly.
“The election will come and go but our individual roles will be subjected to empirical analysis and posterity shall be the judge.
“I believe in you all because we are neither strangers, nor enemies. If we all want the best for this union, we must stay away from sentiments and any acts capable of dragging NUJ in the mud.
“We must all work to lift the fortune of our union and encourage our colleagues to achieve the best they can through our collective influence in the society.
“I thank you for putting the collective interests into being as you go ahead in this onerous task. God bless NUJ,” Babalola added.
Responding, the chairman of the Committee, Prince Semiu Azeez and other members of the committee promised not to be biased in discharging their duties.
They said their integrity was at stake and therefore appealed to all journalists to cooperate fully with the Committee before, during and after the election.
