The lawmaker representing Oyo central senatorial district, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, is starting on a good note as he will be commissioning 6 projects on Thursday as part of his goals in his first 100 days in office.
This, OYOINSIGHT.COM learnt, was facilitated by the senator through his friends and contacts long before the 2023 general election.
Billed for the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, projects including a new administrative block, 2,000 capacity lecture theatre; 1,500 capacity lecture theatre; guidance & counseling building; road and drainages.
This is just as plans are underway for the commissioning of the indoor sports hall, according to Akintunde, who spoke at a reception organized to honour him in his hometown of Oyo.
At the event which had the who is who in the state in attendance, an elated Akintunde said that 8 schools from the 11 local government areas of the senatorial district have been identified for renovation. He listed the schools to include Methodist Secondary School, Fiditi, AFIJIO; Olode Primary School, Egbeda; Community Grammar School, Apatere, Lagelu; Oranyan Grammar School, Oyo, Atiba; Christ Basic School, Bioku-Etile, Ona-Ara; ADS Grammar School, Opapa, Oyo West; Adebimpe Community Primary School, Adebimpe, Oyo East and Ibere Community High School, Ogo Oluwa.
While thanking constituents, and especially members of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State and those who mobilized support for him during and after the election, Akintunde promised not to let them down.
“My utmost commitment is to ensure that your concerns and needs remain at the forefront of our legislative agenda. I understand the challenges you face daily, and we are determined to tackle them head-on. Your voices will not only be heard but will play a pivotal role in shaping the policies, legislative agenda, and decisions that will impact our society, especially Oyo Central Senatorial District.”
Apart from his primary function of lawmaking and oversight functions, the former commissioner promised establishment of skills/vocational training centers; annual employability/career training/job fair for graduates/artisans; establishment of interparty/community assembly of critical stakeholders; facilitation of tech/ ICT hub for youths; medical check/ health awareness programme; galvanizing support for political developments as well as organization of town hall meetings with constituents from time to time.
He continued: “In the area of healthcare provision, preparation for the commissioning of Medical Center, Oyo, facilitated through the SDGs office, Abuja) is in top gear in addition to talks which are ongoing for the transfer of the administration of the clinic to Oyo state government for effective management. Also, a replica of the medical outreach conducted at Oyo West, Ona-Ara and Lagelu local government has also been scheduled to be conducted at Surulere and Ogo-Oluwa council areas. The process of establishing mobile clinics in the senatorial district has commenced. This has reached advanced stages and would very soon be operational for emergency cases.
”Also the trio of my humble self, Architect Wasiu Adebisi and Engr. Idris Adeoye have concluded plans to honour 11 individuals from the senatorial district— one each from the 11 local government, with educational scholarship at any Nigerian public tertiary institution of choice. We have facilitated soft loans for 20 individuals to the tune of N350,000 each. Some have collected while others will be given soon.
“The commencement of establishment of ICT centres at identified locations in the senatorial district has also been penned down for the first 100 days. The locations identified for the projects are Surulere, Oyo West, AFIJIO, Egbeda and Akinyele local government areas.”
Akintunde urged the people to continue to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu, adding that he has rekindled the hope of Nigerians in governance.
