Professor Adeolu Akande has declared that the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State would require a credible gubernatorial candidate who understands the ideals and vision of the progressives family in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
Akande, a gubernatorial aspirant, said this while addressing elders of the APC in Ibarapa land as part of his statewide consultations with stakeholders on his plan to clinch the party’s ticket in the forthcoming primaries.
The professor of comparative politics urged party chieftains to do a thorough scrutiny of all aspirants before deciding on anyone to represent the party in the general elections.
He reiterated the “need to be mindful of the type of people we elect to fly the flag of the party. We need to interrogate all contestants and ask questions on their pedigree and track records. Do they even understand the ideals and vision of the progressives part?.”
The former chief of staff to late Governor Abiola Ajimobi assured all stakeholders that members of the party would have no regret if he is given the opportunity to contest on the party’s platform.
He noted that apart from his academic background as a political scientist and lawyer, he has acquired hands on experience on good governance and accountability as a practising journalist for several years.
“I am well prepared for the task ahead. I know you will be proud of me if given the opportunity to contest as the gubernatorial candidate of the party based on my antecedentsm. I have been part and parcel of government at the federal and state levels in the past two decades, I was one of those that worked closely with our late leader and governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi. I know what to do without wasting time and resources in providing good governance in our darling state,” he assured.
While lamenting the spate of insecurity in the state, Professor Akande, he promised that he would do all within his powers as a governor to restore peace and tranquility to the state.
Responding on behalf of other elders, Pa Timothy Alarape Jolaoso showered encomiums on Akande, adding that he should remain committed to the ideals and visions of the progressives.
The elders expressed optimism that Akande has the competence, capacity and capability to make the party proud as governor.
Among the elders at the meeting were Chief J.O Adeola, Alhaj K.O Jinadu, Apostle S.A Aderounmu, Alhaj M.O Abass, Chief T.A.A Adenrele, Hon R.O. Ojegoke and Chief Francis Babalola, Forum Secretary.
Akande was accompanied by top party loyalists like Chief Wale Arowomole from Lagelu local government, Hon Jide Adewale, Oluyole Local government, Hon Ademola Solalu, Ibadan North, Hon Adeniji Adisa, Itesiwaju, Hon Niyi Adeagbo, Itesiwaju and Hon Wasiu Akogun, ATISBO.
