The aspiration of an African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship aspirant, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, got a major boost as party members and stakeholders in his native Oyo town which comprises of AFIJIO, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West, have thrown their weight behind him.
The meeting which was held earlier yesterday at Labamba Hotel had in attendance party stakeholders, leaders and executives across the four local government in Oyo Federal Constituency.
Others included Hon Joseph Oyekola, Hon Muideen Olagunju representing Atiba and Oyo East/ West state constituencies respectively in the Oyo State House of Assembly as well as a former House of Representatives’ member, Hon Maroof Akinwande. Other aspirants and party loyalists within the ancient town were also present.
Akintunde, while speaking, said his aspiration to contest for the governorship position in 2019 is not about himself but for the effective representation and development of the state.
A statement by his media office, a copy of which was made available to OYO INSIGHT, stated that “there’s nothing like consensus candidate within the party. The NWC of the party believes in internal democracy and the primaries is going to be free, fair and credible. And I believe, by the special grace of God, I will triumph.”
He charged the party leaders and members to remain focus and be prayerful towards achieving the aspiration.
The party leaders unanimously agreed to meet the state stakeholders and other relevant leaders within the party to express their satisfaction with Akintunde’s ambition.
In his remarks, a party leader, Chief Siju Salam encouraged everyone present at the meeting to be united and informed other party loyalists to support Akintunde.
