Professor AbdulRahman Afonja, former commisioner for transport and works in the administration of Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, has put smiles on the faces of indigent students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH.
The sum of N2.4 million will be shared among 240 students of the institution.
The venue of the 16th LAUTECH Alumni annual lecture which held on Friday was thrown into wild jubilation when the Ogbomoso-born politician and security expert made the announcement.
Afonja, speaking later, said the bursary award to the indigent students was to cushion the effect of the present economic hardship on students and parents, pledging to do more at times goes on.
He explained that it was God’s doing and “I am always happy assisting with the little I can. The names of the beneficiaries have been taken, and in a few days, the disbursement will take place.”
The global president of LAUTECH alumni association, Hon Onilede Solomon and the student union president, Anuoluwa Adeboye joined other students in appreciating Afonja and his philanthropic gesture towards their community.
They said that the LAUTECH community and general student body will never forget him.
Many students who benefited from the gesture, when interviewed, prayed for Afonja for more strength and promotion in his life.
