The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has thrown his weight in support of the thirty thousand naira minimum wage demands of civil servants in the state and across the nation, adding that they deserve even higher.
Makinde made this known today while on a visit to the office of the Nigerian Labor Congress, Oyo State chapter where he meet with the leaders of various Labour union in the state to present his blueprint and plans for the state work force.
While speaking in solidarity with the workers who began a three days warning strike yesterday in respect to issue of welfare and non payment of areas and allowances by the present administration, Makinde promised to engage the state work force productively and tackle poverty head long if voted into power.
He added that he will reposition the affairs of the state by putting people to work and also expand the economic base of generating revenue instead of relying solely on federal allocation .
While noting that the state cannot continue to rely on funds generated from crude oil for massive development across board, he asserted that Agriculture will be his number one cardinal focus, as the state is blessed with massive resources , hence deploying the resources generated to things that will bring benefits to the state .
Furthermore, he affirmed that his government plans to reduce poverty amongst residents which fuels violence ,will engage the unemployed youth population with a focus to unlock hidden potential spread across the state.
Earlier, Makinde who participated in a debate organized by the Oyo state farmers Association promised to revamp farm settlements across the state. Speaking further the PDP gubernatorial candidate remarked that his administration will improve the lots of farmers in the state.
He said he will ensure that necessary infrastructures will be put in place to ensure that Oyo state farmers productivity are raised to International standard.
