The Special Adviser on Strategic and Political Affairs to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Babatunde Oduyoye has revealed that Governor Makinde requested that a Police Squadron should be sited in Okeogun during a visit to the Inspector General of Police in August 2019.

Oduyoye stated this while speaking on Fresh FM Political Curcuit program on Saturday.

He explained that the Police Squadron base in Okeogun was one out of the five things the Governor requested form the Police IG during the visit.

“I had the singular honour of being in the entourage of the governor on the visit to Abuja with the Special Adviser on Security, COMPOL Fatai Owoseni. Owoseni was appointed on August 10. We were in Abuja and I accompanied the governor on the visit to the IG. I was there live and direct. The governor made five requests and three have been granted. But for security reasons, I won’t mention the remaining two,” he stated.

He explained further, “The governor specifically asked for the MOPOL Base for Oke Ogun for two reasons. The border is there and the sporadic herdsmen attacks. When we got back to Ibadan, he set up another committee to try and identify the exact location.

“We have people from Oke Ogun, the Deputy Governor is from Oke Ogun, the chairman Advisory Council is from Oke Ogun and quite a number of people. They were equally interested in having this located in their domain. But Ago Are is centrally located and so, for a lot of reasons, it was sited in Ago Are. At no point was there a diversion. At no point was there a relocation. The governor did not at any point consider that what has been sited for a historical town like Oyo will be moved to another location.”

He also confirmed that a statement credited to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa that “maybe the one ( Police Squadron) Alaafin requested for is still in progress” because “the one sited in Ago Are came before that. Lagos has seven bases, Nasarawa has three.”
