Contrary to claims from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, as well as the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, on Oyo State Government’s disapproval of the appointment of foremost businessman, Alh. Y. K. Abass, by the Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment.
OYOINSIGHT.COM recalls that the Olubadan had on Friday installed Alhaji Yekini Abass as Babaloja General of Oyo state. This development attracted criticism from the state government.
On Saturday, the commissioner for information in the state, Wasiu Olatunbosun while speaking on a radio programme on Saturday revealed that the state government was not aware of the installation of Alhaji Abass as Babaloja general of Oyo state by the Olubadan. This stand was also taken by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
However, Governor Makinde during a visit to the Olubadan gave his backing to the decision by the monarch to appoint the Babaloja of Oyo State.
He maintained that his administration would continue to give all traditional rulers what is due to them.
He added that his administration will do all that is needed for all the traditional rulers in the state and that as someone with good upbringing, he would never disrespect elders.
While confirming the appointment of the Babaloja of Oyo State, Governor Makinde said: “I want to say here that since Kabiyesi has taken such a decision, it is confirmed by the government as well. So, they should follow the needed due process. Kabiyesi cannot make a decision and we will overturn it.
